VASL seeks to create a soccer-rich environment in Vermont that extends through both youth and adult ranks. Linking adult players to the state's up-and-coming players through a unique mentoring component, VASL intends to satisfy three important needs in our state:
-
To involve soccer-knowledgeable people in coaching. Our players represent a wealth of high-level soccer experience at the club, college, and professional levels. At this time, many youth teams still rely on volunteers usually soccer moms and dads who do not have as strong an understanding of the game and its nuances. VASL's mentoring program brings our players into youth team training sessions to share their knowledge and provide young players with positive adult soccer role models. .
-
To establish a future player pool. Until recently, USSF-sanctioned play stopped at the under 18-age bracket in Vermont. With the introduction of official adult play, our state's youth are now able to proceed directly from organized youth to adult play. By adopting youth teams, VASL teams establish a link to future adult players.
-
To develop a fan base. Establishing a connection to youth players brings our adult players into contact with Vermont's biggest soccer enthusiasts...kids! Local teams have begun to develop a fan base of their own which includes players, their friends, and their parents.
